I first discovered this wonderful Tarot deck in October of 1996 while on holiday in New Orleans and picked up this pack in a shop on Bourbon Street.

Created by Kipling West in 1996, and published by U.S. Games Systems, Inc., The Halloween Tarot offers the keys that open doors to a world truly keeping in spirit with this tradition.

My 4 year old son commented that this looked like a Halloween Rainbow ! I must agree !

This deck is a basic classic Tarot format (78 cards, 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana in four suits), presented in the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot template.  The Halloween theme is consistent and executed with a joyous and nostalgic childlike feel for the season.

Imps and Ghosts

I am reminded of those early animated shorts from the 1930's of dancing skeletons, spooks, frightened cats and flapping bats. Indeed, a black cat appears on every single card and is part of the back of the card's design. This black cat seems to serve as The Halloween Tarot's totem spirit that slinks in and out through the entire pack.

Pumpkins and Bats

The Four suits of the Minor Arcana are:

Imps for Wands  (Fire)

Ghosts for Cups  (Water)

Bats for Swords  (Air)

Pumpkins for Disks / Pentacles (Earth)

There are any number of recognizable characters throughout the deck: A Frankenstein Monster and his Bride appear as IV Emperor and III Empress, The Wolf-Man is howling at XVIII The Moon, as well as vampires, a hunchback, scarecrows, a mad scientist and trick-or-treaters lurking about.

If you are a big fan of Halloween, as I am, then you really should check-out The Halloween Tarot.

A very nice item to have on hand for doing readings at your next Halloween party !
